UNMAM Projects

During my undergraduate at The University of New Mexico (UNM) I had to privilege of supporting the University of New Mexico Art Museum (UNMAM) as their Communications and Operations Assistant from June 2024 through December 2025June 2024 through December 2025.

Beginning in mid-2025 I began coordinating with the UNMAM communications and outreach coordinator and museum director to envision a comprehensive impact report. The museum needed to showcase their impact on the greater university. I was responsible with the over all design of the document, copy editing, and typesetting the Institutional Alignment document.

UNMAM prides itself in being the largest collection of artwork in the state of New Mexico with over 30,000 objects. However, with an aging facility designed for small-scale galleries in the 1,980s, the museum was limited in their ability to effectively display and discuss the stories behind each object.

The Beaumont Newhall Study Room At-A-Glance sheet was a way to do that.

I worked with the museum to find a new way to display the information. Instead of simple print outs, the sheets display the artwork in color, providing am easy to digest bullet point list discussing the artist, and an overview about that particular artwork. With a consistent attendance of over 9,000 museum attendees, and over 2,000 study room visitors, the museum needed an easy to distribute product that showcased each artworks rich history, even when not on full display.

Website Additions

To prepare for a large-scale year end appeal, the museum needed a new landing page to show donors exactly what they’ve done and continue to do. The design had to leverage their existing web builder, and established brand standards, while being modern and eye catching.

When designing the webpage the goal was eye catching features. For a landing page to draw in financial donor support while launching new design elements. The clean and professional design was made to inspire trust in the sixty-three year old organization, with each photo selected to feature student and community engagement, student employee impact, and the diversity of art within the collection.

There was also a habit to work in threes. When envisioning this years theme of “A place to imagine, a place to dream, and a place to learn” I’d chosen to follow this throughout the designs for this years promotional items. Through UNMAM’s three main gallery spaces, three major shows, three major categories of student and community impact the use of three consistent categories echoed the spirit of the art museum.

The goal with the donation and testimonial pages were also to assist in conceptualizing how to go about designing future pages. With limited staffing, and varied student experience, each project had a secondary goal of creating materials and assets that could be reused later on. Assets and templates created for this web project are easily available for their future application as they see fit.
